October Update: Fall Camping, Family Fun, and Setting Sail Solo

October was a crazy, full-of-fun month. Right now, I’m out on the water on my first solo cruise, and I’m so excited! Two years ago today, I was just 19 days past my TBI. Back then, I could barely do much and was only starting to recognize everything again. I never could have imagined doing something like this on my own. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s helped me along the way.

The month kicked off with an awesome weekend of tent camping with the family at Lewis and Clark State Park. The weather was beautiful. I hadn’t tent camped in years, and it was my first time tent camping with the truck, so it was a lot of fun getting all the gear out again, lol!

Because of the camping trip, I had to miss the Brain Injury Support Group meetup at MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital on the first Saturday of the month. Connecting with that group matters to me, so I’m making it a priority to attend the next one on November 7th, right after I get back.

Aside from the weekend trips, work has been extremely busy. It can be stressful and exhausting sometimes, but it’s going well. October was ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) month, so there was a lot to celebrate with the team at the office.

I also enjoyed a ton of great fall activities with friends and family. We went to GloWild at the Kansas City Zoo, which was awesome, and checked out Dark Forest at Powell Gardens. Then we wrapped up the month by carving pumpkins before I left for this much-needed vacation, lol! It’s been busy, but making these memories is what it’s all about.

GloWild and Dark Forest. That Caribbean sign felt like a sign, and the laser show was my favorite.

I’m looking forward to November, especially my neuropsychological testing later this month. More on that later. But right now, I’m just enjoying the ocean.

Be YOU! You’re more than you think, & stronger than you know. Own it! ❤️
